John McCain's attack ad

So, here's the latest attempt by John McCain to attack Obama:

I supposed the ad is trying to make the point that Sen. Obama is famous, but has nothing to back it up. It fails on several levels:
  1. Um, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are crazy
  2. Sen. Obama is, idk, a SENATOR, former President of Harvard Law Review, Constitutional Law scholar, author of two best-selling books, etc.
  3. The ad is also incoherent, it tries to do too much by adding in the stuff about the oil/taxes
  4. The "tax on electricity" claim isn't even true
  5. Sen. Obama looks optimistic in the photo, whereas Sen. McCain looks angry

Hi, angryskink. I liked your diary on DKos. Can't say I'll be a regualar at checking your blog, because I'm not a regular anywhere but DKos, really -- time limits. Sigh. But it's an attractive design and you have some interesting content, so I wish you good luck.

I don't think this ad is a failure, really. DIshonest, manipulative, low... but hey, that doesn't make it a failure. :)

Comparing Obama to Brittany and Paris, empty-headed pretty-face celebrities, is exactly the message that McCain's new "informal" consultant Karl Rove wants to send. Obama is attractive but has no substance. McCain will get some flack over the electricity tax, which I believe they just made up -- but many people will believe it.

Hopefully, though, many people have heard that Obama wants to raise taxes only on those making over $200,000 a year, whose taxes Bush has cut so much. And I hope people are getting the point that Obama has some substance worth listening to, on the war, the economy, global warming, etc.

The best thing for McCain in this ad is his face at the end. It shows his good side, and his handsome profile, without the puffyness of a frontal photo. With the dramatic lighting, he looks like a noble Roman Senator or some such. A mature leader. If he didn't open his mouth, the impression might last. But looks do count with the American people. With all people, really. So we better keep campaigning hard for Obama. Less than 100 days now...
