Am I the only one who thinks that any ad that features John McCain speaking directly to the camera is by definition not exciting?

Like Jonathan Cohn, I have nothing better to do on a Friday night than wait expectantly by my cell phone... (Although I am hanging out with friends, I'm just letting them talk amongst themselves while I sit at my computer...)

Reid and Lieberman talk

During the phone call, I wish that Harry Reid said something about throwing Lieberman out of our Party, but it appears he kept it civil:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., defended Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Wednesday after the former Democratic vice presidential nominee accepted a speaking slot at next month's Republican convention in Minnesota.

"He has a close personal relationship with John McCain. I don't fully understand why he does," said Reid, who said Lieberman called Tuesday from the Republic of Georgia to alert him to the move.

I told him last night, 'You know, Joe, I can't stand John McCain.' He said, 'I know you feel that way,' " Reid said.

But Reid said he would continue to resist calls from the Democratic Party's base to strip Lieberman, now an independent, of his Senate positions for his disloyalty.

I guess John McCain can't go more than a month without his "economic brain" Phil Gramm.

I think that John McCain is going to look ridiculous accepting the nomination.

Does John McCain have a single idea?

Because all I'm seeing a ton of lame attack ads. This is even worse than the last one:



Also, does anyone else get the sense that it sort of implies that Sen. Obama is going to be President? Has another campaign ever just mocked their opponent like this? It's not even attempting to discuss any issue.

John McCain's attack ad

So, here's the latest attempt by John McCain to attack Obama:




I supposed the ad is trying to make the point that Sen. Obama is famous, but has nothing to back it up. It fails on several levels:

1. Um, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are crazy
2. Sen. Obama is, idk, a SENATOR, former President of Harvard Law Review, Constitutional Law scholar, author of two best-selling books, etc.
3. The ad is also incoherent, it tries to do too much by adding in the stuff about the oil/taxes
4. The "tax on electricity" claim isn't even true
5. Sen. Obama looks optimistic in the photo, whereas Sen. McCain looks angry

I'm happy to report that the McCain campaign spends more time thinking about cutesy luggage tags than they do strategy. It makes this Democrat sleep easy.
