Cheney at the Convention?

According to Mark Halperin, our illustrious Vice President will actually attend his own Republican Convention. And here I thought their "famous hatred" of John McCain would mean that he couldn't make it.

Republicans take the cake

If the Republicans can claim their un-televised protest to unsuspecting tourists has "lowered gas prices," why haven't they shared this magic ability before?

On a related note, I claim responsibility for Sen. Obama winning Louisiana, because I was in the state when it happened. Moreover, I actually voted for him! (I guess this means I have a better claim than the Republicans...)

Give Bobby Jindal the keynote address

It makes sense that you would give one of the five minorities in your party the keynote address. Btw, the five are: three Representatives, one Governor and one Senator, making 4 out of the 5 Florida Cubans.

Anyway, I've seen him speak and Gov. Jindal comes across as a big phony. Big brain, no heart. :P

What Republicans are concerned about Obama?

Why is this considered news to Mark Halperin? On a related note, Fred Hiatt is not "center-left," he is an idiot enabler of the wingnuts at the WaPo.

Sad but true

VP Cheney

Even if the Republicans can try to hide the VICE PRESIDENT of the US in a closet during their convention, I'm sure the American people won't forget whose actually in charge of this country right now.

McCain's focus being almost exclusively on attracting independents and women to the polls, it's not a surprise that engaging Cheney isn't on the top of his list.

I wonder why it would HURT McCain's chances to be associated with the FELLOW REPUBLICANS in his PARTY, you know THE PARTY THAT RAN OUR COUNTRY INTO THE GROUND!

VP timing

I thought that the McCain campaign was going to announce their VP pick directly before/as Sen. Obama was accepting the nomination. While this would be shallow and petty, their campaign has embraced that mentality, so it seemed reasonable.

However, it appears that they are going to use the VP pick to drown out another news story - President Bush's speech at the Republican Convention.

Black Republicans

It's nice to see that Lt. Col. Allen West, the Black Republican up for Congress in FL-22 hates his own race:

West seems perfectly suited to soothe a certain type of older voter who intellectually dislikes racism but also fears the black-church-attending Obama. "I never grew an Afro," he tells a cluster of fans at the Coconut Creek retirement village. "I always had a nice little crew cut."

In other words, he denies the "racial" elements of himself in order to make white people more comfortable. That's nice.

What's wrong with this picture?

We all know that absolutely everything in this article is offensive, but I spot something wrong in this picture:


It appears that all the Republicans (plus James Madison) are wearing suits, whereas the two Democrats are in exercise clothes. I wonder if there is a subliminal message I should get out of this.

Barack Obama is "Arrogant"

Mark Ambinder portrays the Republican's latest attack ads like this:

It works not because of the fact of thing -- windsurfing is not an elite sport -- but because it allows partisans to feel superior and allows Republicans to begin to build an entire narrative around their opponents' purported elitism. BTW: you can see the train of thought: Obama --> full of himself --> arrogant --> celebrity --> self-possessed --> doing things for himself, not for the country, BTW: What type of shoes does McCain wear"

Mark misses an important aspect of the attack - its inherent racism. The Republicans are trying to portray Sen. Obama as an "Uppity Black Man" who doesn't "know his place." Michelle Obama is also "ungrateful," "angry" and "bitter."

So in other words, the Obamas are nothing but Angry Black People who are not content with all the riches that the White People have given them, but who are also trying to steal something away from the White People. Somehow they think that they Deserve the Presidency. Which they haven't earned - and which, they actually can never earn.

Republicans lie

We all know that Sen. Obama has no problem visiting the truth without fanfare, so it's great to see Lynn Sweet backing him up against the Rethugs.

Ted Stevens

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) deserves to go to jail. I'm glad to see he was finally indicted. Here is a good discussion of the case and its ramifications for the Senate race.

It's nice that we have another state that's corrupt like us.
