This article about Sen. Obama's upbringing was incredibly moving. It's a must read.

Sense from David Broder

There's a great article by David Broder in the WaPo about Sen. Obama's "well-oiled machine." Very worth reading, but this struck me:

I had just come from listening to George McGovern lament the lack of discipline that wrecked his 1972 nominating convention and, perhaps, his chance of challenging Richard Nixon. "My acceptance speech was the best speech I ever gave," he said, "and it went on at 3 a.m. Eastern time, so nobody saw it."

It is unlikely to happen to Obama. Now that he and Clinton have agreed -- sensibly -- on giving her the roll-call vote her ardent supporters demanded, no contentious issues of policy or procedure remain to be ironed out.

I am shocked by how many people have argued that Sen. Obama "caved into" Sen. Clinton's demands on the roll-call vote. She got almost as many votes as he did, and I'm not a Clinton supporter, but as I argued in the past, this was the only way to go.

Report: Exxon Execs Gave More to Obama

Here's what the report says:

Through June, Exxon employees have given Obama $42,100 to McCain's $35,166. Chevron favors Obama $35,157 to $28,500, and Obama edges out McCain with BP $16,046 vs. $11,500. McCain leads the money race with nearly every other top giver in the oil and gas industry, though -- Koch Industries, Valero, Marathon Oil, Occidental Petroleum, ConocoPhillips, the list goes on.

Notice something? Look, I work for an oil company, so technically, I am one of those oil company employees donating to Sen. Obama. Is this the same as our Company's BOD maxing out to Sen. McCain? No.

What Republicans are concerned about Obama?

Why is this considered news to Mark Halperin? On a related note, Fred Hiatt is not "center-left," he is an idiot enabler of the wingnuts at the WaPo.

Why Obama will win

From the WaPo:

Late last month, a roomful of volunteers in Arlington [Virginia] made calls looking for supporters to come out for a Democratic canvass that drew 2,000 people statewide. [...]

The energy level was a bit lower a couple of days later at McCain's Crystal City office, where 50 volunteers gathered before going to knock on doors.

More dumb polling

So, in the WaPo's latest poll of low-income workers, I was surprised to read this fact:

Nearly six in 10 white and black workers said they think undocumented workers take jobs away from those here legally; seven in 10 Hispanics disagreed. (Nearly half of the Hispanic workers interviewed in this poll are not U.S. citizens.)

Note to the WaPo: non-citizens can't vote.

WaPo tomorrow: McCain Lies

Y'all need to read the whole thing, but tomorrow's front page WaPo story is "McCain Charge Against Obama Lacks Evidence". Read the whole thing, because every word is delicious.

UPDATE: I just realized it, but how ironic is this blogpost's title considering the one underneath it?
